Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his first trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates he has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet saved four early chances in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
